A true hero that seems to be forgotten these day. Before he was a handsome Hollywwod movie star he was an America War Hero. Audie Murphy enlisted in the US Army at age 17 to make something of himself. By the end of WWII, his European theater combat expolts had earned him every medal his country could award for valor. Audie was the war's most decorated American soldier and a national hero. Four years later, as a struggling actor in Hollywood, he wrote of his wartime experiences in a best-selling book, 'To Hell and Back'. He later starred in the film version of his book. He died age 45 in 1971 in a plane crash. He is shown wearing all five medals awarded for valor by the U.S. Army: the Medal of Honor, the Distinguished Service Cross, the Silver Star (2 awards), the Legion of Merit, and the Bronze Star. He was also awarded the Purple Heart (3 awards) for combat injuries. The French awarded him Chevalier of the Legion of Honor and the Croix de Guerre with Palm (2 awards}, and a...
