There's smoke over the hills, but nobody in Edenville seems too concerned, even though it's fire season and the bush is tinder-dry. Luke has made friends in this town, his mum has found a job she likes, and it's starting to look as if they'll stay for a while. But Luke knows that good things don't last, and everything he has come to rely on is threatened by a much bigger event, one that could destroy everyone and everything.

Sykie Martin sets off on an adventure to the Isle of Gloomb. Her mission – rescue The Princess. Mad Dog thumbs a lift home from Madura
We left Dick at Madura to hitch back to Sydney, and John and I continued on to Perth. The clutch cable broke near Norseman, so I got to become proficient at clutch-less gear changes, a hundred gear changes later, and a few hills, a thousand kms, and learning to judge the approach speed at the traffic lights to avoid a stop, as we came into the outskirts of Perth.
