The Dick Van Dyke Show

In the history of television, there are very few shows that can truly be called "classics." An affectionate and nostalgic portrait of a show more than twenty years old that is still in reruns, The Dick Van Dyke Show tells the inside story of the situational comedy whose phenomenal success was a surprise even to its creators. Tracing its evolution from the pilot, Head of the Family starring Carl Reiner, through the ordeal of finding the right actor to play the clumsy but talented TV writer Rob Petrie, gathering the supporting cast that included Rose Marie and...

Dublin Contemporary 2011 is a contemporary art exhibition taking place in Dublin
Dublin Contemporary 2011 is a contemporary art exhibition taking place in Dublin between September 6th and October 31st, 2011. The main exhibition hub at Earlsfort Terrace, former home of University College Dublin, provides a range of unusual spaces for mini solo exhibitions that range from large-scale installations to smaller intimate hangings. The Office of Non-Compliance, located within the Earlsfort Terrace exhibition site, will function as a promoter of ideas around a laundry list of non-conformist art proposals. This element of the exhibition includes ad-hoc, accessible structures for discourse around art and its place in society. Dublin Contemporary 2011 is expected to welcome over 150,000 visitors. More than 60 Irish and international artists will participate through brand new commissions and mini solo exhibitions held throughout Dublin. The exhibition is being co-curated by Jota Castro and Christian Viveros-Fauné. The title and theme of Dublin Contemporary 2011 is...
TV Shows We Used To Watch - Z-Cars 1962-78
Z-Cars or Z Cars was a British television drama series centred on the work of mobile uniformed police in the fictional town of Newtown, based on Kirkby, Merseyside. Produced by the BBC, it debuted in January 1962 and ran until September 1978. www.youtube.com/watch?v=ykxb3kKkBLE The series differed sharply from earlier police procedurals. With its less-usual Northern setting, it injected a new element of harsh realism into the image of the police, which some found unwelcome. Z-Cars ran for a total of 803 episodes, of which less than half have survived. Regular stars included Stratford Johns (Detective Inspector Barlow), Frank Windsor (Det. Sgt Watt), James Ellis (Bert Lynch) and Brian Blessed ("Fancy" Smith). Barlow and Watt were later spun into a separate series Softly, Softly. The name Z-Cars relates to an imaginary ‘Z’ Division of the local constabulary. The theme tune was based on a traditional Liverpool folk song, and was adopted by Everton Football Club as its...
