A spirited and revealing memoir by the most celebrated editor of his timeAfter editing The Columbia Review, staging plays at Cambridge, and a stint in the greeting-card department of Macy's, Robert Gottlieb stumbled into a job at Simon and Schuster. By the time he left to run Alfred A. Knopf a dozen years later, he was the editor in chief, having discovered and edited Catch-22 and The American Way of Death, among other bestsellers. At Knopf, Gottlieb edited an astonishing list of authors, including Toni Morrison, John Cheever, Doris Lessing, John le Carr? Michael Crichton, Lauren Bacall, Katharine Graham, Robert Caro, Nora Ephron, and Bill Clinton-not to mention Bruno Bettelheim and Miss Piggy. InAvid Reader, Gottlieb writes with wit and candor about succeeding William Shawn as the editor ofThe New Yorker, and the challenges and satisfactions of running America's preeminent magazine. Sixty years after joining Simon and Schuster, Gottlieb is still at it-editing, anthologizing, and, to his surprise, writing. But this account of a life founded upon reading is about more than the arc of a singular career-one that also includes a lifelong involvement with the world of dance. It's about transcendent friendships and collaborations, "elective affinities" and family, psychoanalysis and Bakelite purses, the alchemical relationship between writer and editor, the glory days of publishing, and-always-the sheer exhilaration of work.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt Plans Musical with Channing Tatum | Playbill - Playbill.com

LIVE with Kelly , actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt revealed that he is working on a movie musical with longtime pal and fellow actor Channing Tatum. Tatum and Gordon-Levitt collaborated previously on three movies and were looking for another project to do together. “After that number, people were like, ’Let's do a movie musical,’ and I wanted to, but I only wanted to do it if it was really the right thing,” Gordon-Levitt told Kelly Ripa and her co-host for the day, Michael Weatherly. Tatum and Gordon-Levitt started talking to a writer friend about what to work on. (This writer friend is presumably Michael Bacall, as Gordon-Levitt mentioned the writer was also the writer on Tatum’s. “So we were talking about: if you could do any movie, what would you do. And I was like, ‘I’ve always wanted to do a musical, and I want to do a movie with Chan. Let’s write a musical for me and Chan,’” said Gordon-Levitt. While Gordon-Levitt has been making movies for years, he fell in love with acting at a young age through community theatre, doing productions like.

SJSA Grade Six - The Year I Rebelled
Let’s go back a year to sixth grade. This was a pivotal year in my career at SJSA. I set records that probably were never matched until the school closed and the building was leased to the Chicago Public Schools. This year for the first time in my young life I did form, express, and hold onto my own opinion which ran counter to the opinion held by someone who was not only an adult, not only a teacher, but a nun to boot! I also fought back against a system that was treating me what I considered unfairly. This first taste of independence did come with a cost, but it was a cost that I happily and proudly paid. If I had to do it over again, I would do the same thing today as I did back then. Question; was I grown up then or am I still a child now? Sister Margaret Jean was a firm believer in the Teacher’s Pet System. She had her pets and a small stable of snitches and they served her loyally and well. Some of her pets had their “petdom” passed down to them from siblings and they...
Liza Minnelli
Outside the Warner Theatre Liza May Minnelli (born March 12, 1946 in Los Angeles, California) is an Academy Award-winning American actress and singer. She is the daughter of legendary entertainer Judy Garland and her second husband, acclaimed film director Vincente Minnelli (who was of Italian and French descent). Minnelli's first film appearance was at the age of three in the final scene of the 1949 musical In the Good Old Summertime, starring her mother and Van Johnson. Minnelli started performing at age 16, in 1963, in an Off-Broadway revival of the musical Best Foot Forward, for which she received good notices. The next year, her mother invited Minnelli to perform with her at the London Palladium. The audience loved her, launching her musical career. She returned to Broadway at 19, and won a 1965 Tony Award for Flora the Red Menace. Minnelli would also receive Tony Awards for The Act in 1978 and a special Tony in 1974. She was nominated in 1984 for The Rink but lost to her...
