In a struggle between good and evil the Silver Wolf battles to save his world from dark forces and to find the kind of peace that only comes from pain.
They often wear T-shirts with their famous slogan “100% Homegrown” printed on it as a sign of support for their local-born coaches and athletes. So it was no surprise when nearly 30 Wildcats fans packed a charter bus to travel four hours to see former St. James football player and assistant coach Byron Keller work his first regular season game as a head football coach at Lakeview High... For one night, the St. James fans traded in their black-and-gold gear to wear Lakeview's green-and-orange colors and support their homegrown product Keller, a 33-year-old former Wildcats player from 1996-2000 and assistant football coach from... He also mentioned how their presence gave Lakeview players and fans a glimpse on how passionate football is at St. James. They are not used to hearing all the air horns or the noise,” Keller said. “I think that was a real big indicator on how serious football is for St. James fans. I really appreciate it. ”. Although Lakeview suffered a 58-20 loss to St. Mary High of Natchitoches in Keller's coaching debut on Thursday, it didn't ruin the trip for St. James fans. Vacherie native Noreen Keller, who is Coach Keller's aunt, said the trip was an awesome experience. When they arrived in Campti, she said the bus driver granted their requests by blowing the bus horn as they got closer to Lakeview. She said they shouted “Go Gators” and blew their air horns all night in support. “Making the trip to Lakeview to support Byron was very special to his family and the St. James community because this is what we do, we support one another,” Noreen Keller said. “Coach Keller is such a humble and lovable young man. The community felt that since we could not support Byron here in St. James, we brought St. James to Byron. As they stepped off the buses in Campti, the Wildcats fans were treated to familiar smells and tastes of homemade jambalaya from longtime St. James supporter Henry Ordoyne, who served his specialty to hungry fans, coaches and players the entire... “Although the scoreboard did not reflect what we were hoping for, overall the trip was a great experience,” said trip organizer Shane Kliebert, who is a former football player and current assistant principal at St. James. “The drive up to Campti felt like a Wildcat playoff trip complete with chants and story telling by community members and former Wildcat coaches. Legendary coaches Donald “Rod” Rodrigue, Daryl “Bear” Hebert, Danny Shepard and community members reminisced on old playoff stories as we viewed Wildcat highlights on the bus monitors. After the game, Lakeview principal William Hynes and Natchitoches Parish schools superintendent Dale Skinner addressed the St. James fans on the field. They thanked the Wildcats fans for making the trip to cheer on Lakeview. “The principal of Lakeview talked with us, stating how Coach Keller is so good with the students and how blessed he is to have Coach Keller on his staff,” Noreen Keller said. “He stated how Coach Keller is a fine young man and congratulated his parents on doing such a fine job of raising Byron. We gave Lakeview fans a few tips on how we do it (cheer and support) in St. James, and they appeared to be catching on. ”. Coach Keller said seeing the support from St. James fans helped take some of the sting away from the tough loss on Thursday. “I definitely appreciate them taking time out in their busy schedule to come out and support the Lakeview community,” Coach Keller said. Kliebert said Lakeview, a Class 2A school, faced some challenges against St. Mary, a Division IV state runner-up from last year, but he noticed how the Gators continued to fight and never gave up during the game. Lakeview, which had a 1-9 record last year, runs a similar Delaware Wing-T offense that St. James used under former head coach Rick Gaille from 1992-2011. “As the charter bus left the parking lot of Lakeview High School late Thursday night, we... Kliebert thanked everyone who made the trip possible, including Gaten Bus Charters, the Lakeview and St. James communities, Henry Ordoyne and son Chad for cooking jambalaya, Becky and the.
