Why care about the past? Why teach, research and write history? Known as “Kirk” to his band mates of Art Gaines Jazz Ensemble, Earl was the lead and drummer for the group. He served in the Marine Corps and received an honorable discharge. Earl worked and retired from Letterkenny Army Depot in Chambersburg, PA for more than 30 years. Earl was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, who liked Cadillacs, enjoyed dancing, watching sports, and reading the newspaper. He was preceded in death by his sister, Virginia Bennett, his wife of 59 years, Eliza Bennett, his sister, Sadie Robinson, and his daughter Lisa Campbell. Earl is survived by one sister, Ruth Bennett. one brother, Joseph Bennett. one daughter, Diane Duncan. two sons, Eugene Hudgins and Roland Bennett. five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Services will be held at 11am Saturday, September 8, 2018, at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd. , Hagerstown, MD. Rev. Military honors will be provided by Joint Veterans Council and Marine League of Hagerstown. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
