There is no one quite like Brian Blessed. He's an actor, film star, trained undertaker, unlikely diplomat, secret romantic, martial artist and mountaineer. He's also a brilliant storyteller who will - and you must brace yourself - simply leap out of the pages at you. Ready? Then open Absolute Pandemonium and you'll be taken on a riotous journey from his childhood, growing up the son of a miner in Goldthorpe, to finding fame in Z-Cars. You'll see Brian falling for Katharine Hepburn on the set of The Trojan Women, suffering wires strapped round his wotsits as he was hoisted into the heavens on Flash Gordon, almost causing an international incident when meeting the Emperor and Empress of Japan, and winning round George Lucas to get the role of Boss Nass on Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom...
"No, no, no, no," said Blessed in response, before adding: "I did advise at times. I didn’t interrupt peoples' interpretations because the interpretations were terrific, he’s fine. "But if you’re playing a character like that or you’re playing Boss Nass, I always made sure that my noises didn’t interfere with dialogue, because I had a lot of plot. "I made it [the line of dialogue] clear, then I made noises. But I didn’t make noises on the line, and I think Jar Jar Binks makes noises on the line, and he has a lot of plot, so the audience will go : 'what did he say. he actor also said that, on one occasion, he told Lucas about his Binks-related concerns. "I said, you lose a bit of plot, you have to be careful. Cause it involved me a bit and George said 'I’ll watch it Brian, I’ll watch it. '" he revealed. Jar Jar Binks and "noises" aside, the video above also offers another surprising insight into Blessed's Star Wars career. Originally, the actor says, Lucas had quite another role lined up for him. "[George Lucas] said “I thought of you as one of the Jedi, but you’re much too powerful for the part, and I need your energy in the film," he explained. Blessed also stated that, contrary to popular belief, Sir Alec Guinness, who died in 2000, did not dislike Star Wars. Alec was madly in love with the whole thing," he said. "A refurbished Star Wars is on somewhere or everywhere. Twenty years ago, when the film was first shown, it had a freshness, also a sense of moral good and fun. The bad penny first dropped in San Francisco when a sweet-faced boy of twelve told me proudly that he had seen Star Wars over a hundred times. Looking into the boy’s eyes I thought I detected little star-shells of madness beginning to form and I guessed that one day they would explode. “I would love you to do something for me,” I said. ” the boy said rapturously. “You won’t like what I’m going to ask you to do,” I said. “Anything, sir, anything. “Well,” I said, “do you think you could promise never to see Star Wars again.
