PREP SOCCER: Ogden routs Bonneville in Region 5 matchup; roundup - Standard-Examiner

WASHINGTON TERRACE — Ogden High goalie Hunter Clarke suffered a chest injury in a collision midway through the second half Tuesday, stayed in the game but was assisted from the field and taken to a hospital for X-rays when it was over. Bonneville coach Fritz Backman just wishes his team had shown a little more heart during the Region 5 rout. Clarke’s injury put a damper on an otherwise feel-good outing for the Tigers as Ogden grabbed a share of first place in Region 5 with a 6-2 victory over Bonneville. The Tigers took a 3-1 lead at the half and Jamie Nunez Sanchez scored two goals in the second period, one on a long kick from the left corner, to put the game out of reach. “At the half we switched sides because we thought it would be better to play Tony (Cazarez) on the right side and me on the left side,” Nunez Sanchez said. Cazarez also netted two goals, the first one six minutes into the game and his other sandwiched between Nunez Sanchez’s pair in the second half. “I think from the very beginning that Ogden took it to us. We were manhandled, out-hustled, out-played, out-everything,” Backman said. Joe Cloward and Andrew Sessions scored for Bonneville. Jaxon Clarke and Bryan Valasco-Perez had Ogden’s other goals, Valasco-Perez finding the net on a kick from midfield that bounced over the Laker goalkeeper. All three of Ogden’s second-half goals came in a six minute span, sinking any Laker hopes of a comeback. “We got the lead at first and had to adjust a couple of things,” Ogden coach Todd Scott said. WEBER 4, NORTHRIDGE 0. PLEASANT VIEW — The Warriors took a 1-0 halftime lead on a Braxton Ferrin goal, then added three scores in the second stanza to defeat Northridge. Max Price, Jeff Burnett and Pierce Callister each found the back of the net in the second half for Weber. Price recorded two assists, while Caleb Andersen and Tate Crowell each had one. BEN LOMOND 5, BEAR RIVER 2. GARLAND — Ben Lomond took a 3-2 halftime lead and added second-half insurance goals for the Region 11 victory. Ben Lomond was paced by Jaime Munoz’s two scores. Javier Villegas, Giovanni Martinez and Erik Arroyo also scored for the Scots. Brian Arreguin and Garrett Goring scored for Bear River. BOUNTIFUL 3, BOX ELDER 1. BOUNTIFUL — Bountiful slowly built a lead before surrendering a last-minute goal in the Region 5 win. Alex Limon put one in the net in the 33rd minute on an assist from Bridger Booth to give Bountiful a 2-0 halftime lead. Booth then scored in the second half for a 3-0 advantage. Box Elder converted a penalty kick in the 79th minute to avoid the shutout. ROY 5, CLEARFIELD 0. ROY — The Royals took a 2-0 halftime lead on the way to a 5-0 blanking of Clearfield. Roy ’s Austin Olsen scored twice while Zahir Vazquez, Gunner Erickson and TJ Moore each scored once. FREMONT 2, SKY VIEW 0. SMITHFIELD — The Silver Wolves scored a goal in each half on the way to the Region 1 win over Sky View. Fremont ’s first-half goal came off the foot of Alec Ferrin, assisted by Parker Huff, in the seventh minute. Talon Smith scored in the 49th minute on an assist from Ferrin. LAYTON 1, GRANGER 0. WEST VALLEY CITY — Easton Embley scored the only goal of the game in the 55th minute, lifting Layton to victory in the Region 2 tussel. DAVIS 8, WEST 2. KAYSVILLE — Five Darts found the back of the net in the Region 2 blowout. Colton Harrison, Jared Hatch and Jeremy Sommer each scored twice for Davis. Landon Kartchner and Sam McCalla added a goal apiece. Justin Johnson and Brett Hein contributed to score reports.
