Herbie Mann - Live At The Whisky 1969: The Unreleased Masters

Herbie Mann - Live At The Whisky 1969: The Unreleased Masters

Price: $31.98

While jazz flautist Herbie Mann is often remembered as a pop-jazz player, he was actually a pioneer in popularizing world music and even prog-rock with recordings released on his own Embryo imprint (as part of Atlantic Records). And in the late 60s, he was fronting one of the most progressive and electrifying bands in the world: guitarist Sonny Sharrock, Miroslav Vitous on electric & upright bass, saxophonist Steve Marcus, drummer Bruno Carr, and vibraphonist Roy Ayers. Together, the sextet cut the dynamic Live at the Whisky A Go Go album in 1969, drawn from a four night run at the legendary nightclub on Los Angeles Sunset Strip. Though the band s repertoire was quite varied on these dates, just two side-long tracks, Ooh Baby and Philly Dog, surfaced on the Atlantic Records release. Now, reissue producer Pat Thomas has unearthed the multi-track tapes for these shows (never before mixed), and has programmed a double-CD set that shows this high-energy jazz-rock outfit stretching out sometimes, on Sharrock s solos, way out with, as an added bonus, the appearance of Linda Sharrock on songs that appeared (in studio versions) on the seminal Sonny Sharrock album Black Woman released around the time of these live shows. All performances are previously unreleased, including a 23-minute jam of Donovan s Tangier blending into Tim Hardin s If I Were A Carpenter and a newly discovered take of Ooh Baby that clocks in at 21 minutes! Sonny Sharrock s searing lead guitar work is featured on songs first recorded by Aretha Franklin, Miles Davis, and Simon & Garfunkel plus Black Woman and Portrait of Linda in Three Colors with Linda on vocals. Live at the Whisky 1969 The Unreleased Masters presents two CDs filled to the brim with explosive, yet ethereal innovative jazz-rock at its best. Fans of Bitches Brew, The Inner Mounting Flame, early Weather Report and similar-era titles will quickly realize that Herbie Mann was not just a pop-jazzbo but a force to be taken more seriously than

Rainbow Dome Musick

Rainbow Dome Musick

Price: $9.39

Personnel includes: Steve Hillage (guitar, synthesizer); Miquette Giraudy (Arp omni, Tibetian bells); Rupert Atwill (Eventide harmoniser). Producer: Miquette Giraudy, Steve Hillage. Recorded in January 1979. Rainbow Dome Musick is too avant-garde to be classified as a new age album and too sleek sounding to fit into any progressive rock subgenres, but no matter how it's categorized, it's an excellent example of Steve Hillage's adeptness and vast musical background. His time spent with Daevid Allen's Gong and their far-out, space-fused grooves has rubbed off on him, as he has channeled his learned musical experimentation into an equally entertaining but more refined style of music. Playing guitar in Soft Machine and working with Kevin Ayers doesn't hurt either, but the 20-plus minutes of both tracks on this album harbor some intelligent and mature-sounding instrumentation thanks to a distinct array of sequencers and percussion. "Garden of Paradise" is a lush, intricately woven melange of guitar, piano, and synthesizer which are all pioneered by Hillage. Giving the track its feel and sustenance are the Tibetan bells and the powerful undertow of Miquette Girandy's double sequencer. The instruments gracefully converge to craft the non-existent paradise in which Hillage has musically created. "Four Ever Rainbow" contains much more rhythm and current thanks to the electric and glissando guitar and the subtle hovering of a harmoniser played by Rupert Atwill. The final result of the culmination of both tracks is a relaxing and pleasantly divergent journey through a sorted spectrum of instruments, making this album one of Steve Hillage's best solo pieces. ~ Mike DeGagne

Igniting Passion in Your Church

Information and training are readily available on church growth, methodology, organization, business processes, and efficient management. All of these are important for effective ministry. But in Igniting Passion in Your Church, author and pastor Steve Ayers addresses more critical matters for the church, such as: How can we help people in our church become fully devoted followers of Jesus? What does it mean for the church to be the bride of Christ? How can the church more clearly reflect God in the midst of a world that turns away from the divine? We must take people deeper. Deeper in their relationship with God. Deeper into the responsibility and blessing we enjoy as the church. Deeper into what it means to be the bride of Christ. Ayers challenges pastors and church leaders to ask...

Camp Verde

In February 1864, a party of 17 men and two women left the security of the territorial capital at Prescott, Arizona, and headed east into the Verde Valley, homeland of the Yavapai and Apache. Drawn by the promise of ample water, rich bottomland, and lush grassland, the party established a farming and ranching community near the confluence of West Clear Creek and the Verde River. In spite of conflict with the Yavapai and Apache, the settlement survived, due in part to the establishment of a military presence late that summer. Over the next 35 years, the settlement at Lower Verde thrived around the army fort, and became known as Camp Verde. In 1891, Fort Verde was abandoned, and the surrounding land opened to homesteading in 1895. The post sold at auction in 1899. Built among the ruins of...

Programs push Camp Verde small businesses to new levels of success - Camp Verde Bugle

CAMP VERDE – Ruby Road Resale Vendor Mall, both an antique and thrift store, has operated in Camp Verde for more than 12 years. The store is selective when it comes to vendors that sell in the 8,000-square-foot space, ensuring that the variety of booths “fit in. ”. Ruby Road maintains an active Facebook page – posting updates on merchandise and more recently, holiday hours. The business has a rating of 4. 5 stars out of 5 on Facebook, with 39 5-star ratings. Pam Bridgell, owner of Ruby Road Resale, says free online classes through Yavapai College Small Business Development Center helped her learn how social media can help market her business. Bridgell also sat down with Richard Hernandez with Yavapai College to talk finances. “I know how to run my business and I love my customers – I’m passionate about that, not the nuts and bolts. [Hernandez] has done tutorials to help me get from A to B on the financial part of it, so from that aspect it’s been really positive,” Bridgell said. Camp Verde hosts business counseling and assistance via two different programs. The program Bridgell worked with is in collaboration with the Yavapai College Small Business Development Center. The college’s small business representative is available on Wednesdays via scheduling. The center offers free and $20 entrepreneur workshops. The workshops teach a variety of skills and topics: marketing, social media, financing, tax licenses, trademarks and copyrights. Darryl Olinick, owner of Thanks a Latte and Green Valley Roasting Company, says the program was helpful for him as a new business owner. Olinick bought his businesses a year ago – the programs are not only available to new businesses, but new owners as well. “I was starting to have some doubts about my business and it clarified,” Olinick said. The other program was a conjoined effort between municipal economic development departments. Camp Verde, Sedona and Cottonwood’s respective departments collaborated to write a grant application to fund a small business assistance center. After receiving the grant, Cottonwood hired Kathy Bazan as the business specialist for the shared service – Bazan is available to Camp Verde on Tuesdays. I’ve heard stories about her going out of her way to do the things necessary to help them out,” Economic Development Director Steve Ayers said. Ayers says between the two programs, there’s a plethora of counseling time to assist anybody who is looking to grow or start their business. Now the stars have aligned,” Ayers said. Owners of local businesses in Camp Verde can contact the Camp Verde Economic Development Office at (928) 554-0007 to schedule an appointment.

'Night Life' Australia, Melbourne, Skyline at Night
Portfolio | Travel Blog | Tumblr | Youtube |Contact Me Below is an excerpt from my travel blog. Cheers. I walked around Melbourne yesterday for some time. I strolled through many different types of neighborhoods. Melbourne has a variety of different people and it's not hard to see why much of Australian pop culture stems from the interesting and creative people that live here. It got me to thinking what is Australia all about? What is Australia known for? Well there's the obvious Kangaroos and Koalas. Most people think about the landmarks; Uluru Rock (formerly Ayers Rock), the Outback, Sydney Harbor Bridge and Opera House. What about famous people? I had no idea Rupert Murdoch (billionaire media magnate of News Corporation, now lives in the USA) was from Australia. In the acting field, you have Nicole Kidman, Hugh Jackman, Cate Blanchett, Ernie Dingo, Naomi Watts, Paul Hogan (Crocodile Dundee), Famous singers include the newly popular Kylie Minogue. There is of course...
George Washington Hance 1848-1932
Of all the deaths George Hance witnessed, it was his own that left the most lasting impression. A Civil War veteran, Hance mustered out of the Army at Fort Union, N.M., in 1868 and immediately set out for Prescott along with his two brothers, Jim and John, and 14 other men, one woman and two children. Within the a year, eight of the party would be killed by Indians, Roughly 20 years later, on May 2, 1888, Prescott's Weekly Arizona Journal-Miner, reported that Hance had succumbed to an injury received while on a roundup in Bloody Basin. According to the account, he was injured when the fence rail he was sitting on broke and he fell onto a cow skull. One of the horns impaled his rectum. The account noted, "He was an old resident of the county and universally respected." The account was factual, except for the part where he had died. Although he would suffer from the injury for years, the rumors of his death were, like Mark Twain's, greatly exaggerated. George...
