Maxim Devyatovsky and Fabian Hambuchen were 1-2 in the final rankings of the Champions Trophy, which concluded Sunday in Stuttgart, Germany.
Hambuchen, who was not able to compete at the third leg of the competition after injuring his foot training for the World Championships in October, made a successful return to competiton after a forced four-week absence. His combined point total from the three meets he participated in ranked him second behind Devyatovsky in the standings. American Joseph Hagerty was third.
The Champions Trophy is a series of four meets held between June and November. 2009 is the first year the competition has used a four-meet format. Devyatovsky won the inaugural Champions Trophy in 2008 when the meet was a one-day competition following the DBT Cup. This year, his prize included a new black Mercedes parked inside the arena, which had been admired by almost all the athletes competing.
