Honeywell International of Morris Township among nominees for industry award
New Jersey inventor Thomas Alva Edison brought music, movies and lighting to America and created many companies, including General Electric and ConEd.
His pursuit of innovation is the inspiration behind the Edison Best New Product Awards, which will be handed out Thursday. Co-sponsored by The Discovery Channel, Google, Strategyn and The Nielsen Co., they are considered the Oscars of U.S. industry.
The nominees include Procter & Gamble, Motorola and GE.
Honeywell International of Morris Township was nominated for the Wind Turbine, a compact wind-powered electric generator designed for residential use. The unit is supposed to create enough energy to light a home and allow consumers to sell any extra electricity to local power companies.
GE earned a nomination for an ultrasound system that provides a 3-D image of a baby in a mother’s womb. OnStar earned a nod for technology to remotely slow down a stolen vehicle. Amazon’s Kindle II and the Barnes and Noble Nook digital readers also are finalists.
