The Bakers are suing the contractor, Reese Bros. and Knieriem Construction, and the code enforcement agency, Somerset County Building Inspections, for damages, including all reasonable costs and fees and/or revocation of the building contract. They claim that several state code violations have occurred from the foundation to the roof and their home is unsafe, according to the lawsuit. The Bakers also requested that the township supervisors extend their building permit that expires in July. The township supervisors responded Thursday to Christine Baker’s questions about that request that they did not have any objection to the extension of the building permit. The Bakers were directed to take the resolution along with the building permit to SCBI, which will handle the extension. Construction on the home began in 2008. It was stopped early the following year after several state Uniform Construction Code violations were discovered by The EADS Group of Somerset. The couple hired The EADS Group to conduct a preliminary examination and evaluation of the structural integrity of the house after they noticed structural deficiencies in the framing of the roof in mid-December 2008.
