Cuban Farmers Conclude Process of Meetings Prior to the ANAP ’s 10th CongressBY MIGUEL FEBLES
CAMAGÜEY. — The need to rely on strong and efficient agriculture, advocated by President Raúl Castro in his last speeches, was present in the debates of farmers in this province, met in the Plenary Session of their Provincial Committee, which concluded in the country the series of meetings to be held prior to the 10 Congress of the National Association of Small Farmers (ANAP).
"In order to fulfil such important task -warned José Ramón Machado Ventura, member of the Politburo of the Cuban Communist Party- it’s necessary to change many trite concepts and get rid of all sorts of justifications, since the problem of food self-sufficiency is not a temporary matter, but a highly strategic one."
In this regard, Machado Ventura, also the First Vice-president of the councils of State and Ministers, highlighted the increasingly important role of the cooperative-agricultural workers’ movement, although he clarified that there are still reserves to be exploited in agricultural diversification and yields, intensive farming, and the rational use of human resources.
