Six years ago, Richard Genest came to Schenectady's Stockade with a plan to open a place that served vegetarian fare and offered live music seven nights a week. Six years later, the Moon & River Cafe is doing both, and doing quite well at it. So it's no wonder that Genest, who moved to Schenectady after spending years in Albany as the proprietor of the popular Half Moon Cafe and Mother Earth's Cafe, is in the mood to celebrate. He's featured more than 2,100 bands and performers -- local, regional and national touring acts -- for free at the South Ferry Street venue since opening May 1, 2004. For this year's party, Genest is bringing back local musicians Ethan Waldman, Arya Chowdhury and Steve Moss, who play "edgy acoustic rock," according to Genest. And one sixth anniversary isn't enough for Genest, who will celebrate again on May 4 with area bluegrass act The String Dusters. 8 p.m. Saturday. Free. Moon & River Cafe, 115 S.
