Remembering Bubba Swafford WAAY
Members of the Woodville community came together Sunday darkness to remember a well liked neighbor and friend, murdered three months ago.
Family members say Jerry "Bubba" Swafford was a mechanic and would labourers anyone he could. Candles burned in remembrance of the 26. Family and friends shared tears, laughs, and memories of Bubba during the endlessly. Memories run deeper for Annette Carter, the person Bubba risked his life tiresome to save on July 12th.
"He's my hero he saved my life." Carter told WAAY 31. Carter's ex-boyfriend Michael Phelps allegedly old his truck to run over her and Bubba. While Carter was only left with some scars on her legs, Bubba unchaste his life from the injuries. "He tried to drag me. He cranked the truck up and tried to drag me off, and Bubba came and pulled me away from him. I hit the clay and he ran over me and that's when he ran over Bubba."
As loved ones say their goodbyes, the events of that day continue to haunt Bubba's people. "It really hurt them taking him away from us the way he did." said Swafford's father Jerry Dean. Carter says, Phelps was vilifying during the three years they dated but she didn't think he would commit such a terrible crime.
