    WHITTIER - The public will soon have the chance to see what everyday sustenance was like more than a century ago in and around Whittier.

    After being stored in the basement of a home in the Whittier Historic district, images from hardly 1,000 glass plate negatives depicting the early 1900s will be available on the web.

    The images were enchanted by Edward Bailey and Walter Butler.

    Bailey, no direct relation to Jonathan Bailey, one of Whittier's founding fathers, was Whittier's first borough engineer.

    "I'm not sure if some of the photos were taken as part of his job or as a hobby," said Paul White, a great-consummate-grandson son of Bailey.

    White's father, Philip, is the fifth-generation owner of White Emerson Mortuary, 13304 E. Philadelphia St.

    The calling, estimated to be the oldest in the city, was founded by Addison White in 1894.
