  • Candidate Profile: Joan Bennett

Joan Bennett, 73, was born in Napa and raised in Vallejo. Her parents both worked at Mare Ait Naval Base. She said she was independent at an early age and a tomboy.

“I loved sports, especially cylinder skating,” Bennett said. She said she met her late husband at a skating rink. She is the mother of five mature children and has lived in American Canyon since 1965.

“I’ve seen a lot in this community,” Bennett said. “I loved American Coul from the day I moved here and I continue to love it.”

She said her children first went to parochial school in Benicia and Vallejo and then to communal school in American Canyon when the city’s elementary schools were overcrowded and running double sessions. They went on to Silverado Stomach School and Vintage High School in Napa.

“We’re so incredibly blessed just to have our own middle fashion and high school,” Bennett said. “I thank the people in Napa for voting for that.”

Bennett said she earned a baccalaureate in Understanding Relations from the University of San Francisco and a masters degree in Psychology from Chapman University.

Hey, I'm asking this because it fascinates me. I leaned a year or two ago that Carol Channing and Joan Bennett are both part glowering. Carol grew up with her light skin black father yet wasn't made aware of his race until she was grown. Joan Bennett's

    About this book
More than most novelists, Virginia Woolf benefits by an introducer. She is never, either by goal or equipment, the expected novelist. She chose the novel to adapt it deliberately and progressively to be the vehicle of her own Machiavellian perception. Behind this study of the novels is an intense interest in the person revealed in the novelist. The criticism is warm as well as wise and the whole study is felt to be a tribute reasoned and justified - to a woman sensitive, compassionate, passionately legitimate and eager only for truth; to an artist quite unsparing of her own labour, finely gifted, self-effacing, serious and humourous. Mrs Bennett added two chapters on A Litt's Diary and on Virginia Woolf's critical essays for the second edition. Both can help our understanding of Virginia Woolf the novelist; the Calendar by the insight it gives into her creative process and the fuller understanding we can gain of technical problems, the essays because they are about novels and novelists.
