Hall of Famers, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar to Honor Jackie Robinson Tonight
The Los Angeles Dodgers will celebrate Jackie Robinson Night tonight by having his teammate Don Newcombe and basketball legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar address the crowd at Dodger Stadium and introducing recipients of a team-funded scholarship bearing his name.
Newcombe, now a Dodgers special advisor to the chairman, will also throw out a ceremonial first pitch to Dodger center fielder Matt Kemp as part of the celebration throughout Major League Baseball of the 63rd anniversary of Robinson breaking baseball's color line.
Hall of Famers Tommy Lasorda, who was also a teammate of Robinson's, and Frank Robinson, along with former Dodgers Tommy Davis and "Sweet" Lou Johnson, will also be introduced on the field during ceremonies before the game against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
All uniformed personnel -- players, managers, coaches and umpires -- throughout Major League Baseball will wear Robinson's No. 42 tonight.
