Heights senior second at KU
LAWRENCE — When Shawnee Heights senior Abreanna Parker and Kansas City-Washington junior LeTristen Pledger do battle in the girls long jump, a few inches here or there is sure to make the difference.
It happened in last year's Class 5A state meet, and it happened again Saturday in the Kansas Relays.
At the state meet it took a State Outdoor record for Pledger to topple Parker. Pledger prevailed again Saturday but only by an inch and a quarter.
Pledger won the event with a leap of 18 feet, 9 1/4 inches while Parker finished second at 18-8. Pledger recorded her winning jump on her first attempt in the preliminaries while Parker had her best jump on her third and final jump in the finals.
"It's always like this, I like it," said Parker, who won three 5A gold medals a year ago.
The Nebraska signee was slightly off her season-best mark of 19-2 1/4, which held up as the state's top jump this spring.
"I think it could have gone better, but I'm pretty proud of taking second," Parker said.
At the start of that decade 'Trad' jazz was very popular, especially Acker Bilk who appeared regularly but also Kenny Ball, Chris Barber and Mick Mulligan
Anyway, plenty of actors in attendance: Drew Van Acker, Elise Gatien, Ryan Pinkston, and Dyana Liu. You'll also see a preview of the CGI movie Firebreather.
